History of Parc Place Chandler - Casa Grande |
| |
Over the years, treatment centers have come and treatment centers have gone. Various philosophies of helping adolescents change have come into vogue and just as quickly have been disavowed. But year after year, since 1987, when a young entrepreneur (who happened to be a recovering alcoholic) and his wife decided to “stop talking about opening a treatment center exclusively for kids with alcohol and drug problems and just do it!”, Parc place has been helping abused and neglected youth turn their lives around-one day at a time, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The founders, Jerry and Pat Varney, have moved on to other pursuits, but their vision, as Pat once put it, “to keep it simple, to build a wonderful staff of caring professionals who teach the kids about the disease of addiction and the twelve steps…who build self-esteem and repair family relationships”, continues to be at the heart of the services delivered by Parc Place.
Over five thousand adolescents have been treated at Parc Place since the facility opened early October of 1987. The 1990’s saw many changes, as young people began presenting with significantly more complicated and serious behavioral disorders, educational defects and as the use of illegal drugs continued to grow, both in Arizona and throughout the country. But Parc Place has stayed the course, adapting to numerous changes in the behavioral healthcare environment as well as society as a whole, but remaining true to the values and beliefs under which the agency was founded.
